ROTARY AUCTION
Rotarians Tom Smith,
Tommy Zincone and Randy Cash begin preparing for the Rotary
Scholarship Auction.
Rotary auctioneer Herbert Farrar
works the crowd hard to raise these much needed scholarship
funds. Funds are raised from the auction of donated items
and the concession sales conducted during the auction. Great
thanks and appreciation are given to the local residents who
donate items and to those who purchase them for the
deserving local high school graduates. This year seven
scholarships will be awarded. A Photo of the winners will be
placed in the photo album after Awards Day on June 9, 2006.
The hard working staff cookin' and
hustlin' drinks for the crowd to keep the motivation to
contribute at its peak.

Well, this is
where all the hard work pays off. On June 9, 2006 the Rotary Club awarded 7 (Seven)
scholarships for a total of $7,000.00. How about that!!!

Our raffle for the Marie Taylor

at $2,400.00 has been won.
The print had been on display at various locations in South Hill.
It was located with the following Rotarians at their
business locations: The Town of South Hill Offices
with Mr. John Stockton,
First Citizens Bank with Mr. Jerry Reynolds, Citizens Community Bank with Mr. Vin Montgomery,
Edward
Jones Investments with Mr. Nick Gesell , State Farm
Insurance with Mr. Charles Wright, and One Stop Gift Shop
with Mr. Mike Peters (who donated the print for the raffle).
The drawing was held May 6, 2006 at "Spring Fest".

The pro wrestler "Saratoga
Stud" draws the print winning number of Ms. Jane Clary
of Alberta Virginia. Our hearty congrats to Ms. Clary.

The South Hill Rotary Club participates
in local activities such as the area roadway clean-up project.
Rotarians take off their business clothes, get "casual" and go
about cleaning up their assigned section of roadway on Highway
One North. It takes cooperation and hard work but it is great
fun if you don't fall out of the truck!

Other activities supported by the South
Hill Rotary Club are the local school "Lunch Buddies" program.
Rotarians are assigned a particular class at the local
elementary school and we join this class during their lunch
break once each week. Often the children convince the Rotarian to
remain and to read to the
class and that's when the fun begins.

"Lunch Buddies" Rotarians Tom Smith, Jimmie
Crowder and Tommy Zincone wait for their classes and Lisa
Clary reads " The Cat in the Hat" to her class.

Also at "Lunch Buddies" Rotarians
Jerry Klingenberg and Tom Leggett enjoy a some fun with
their classes.

More "Lunch Buddy" fun as school draws
to a close. Rotarians Lisa Clary and Bruce Settle celebrate
with class parties of snacks and pizza...Yum.
Rotary members also are very involved in
the "Accelerated Reader Program". This program encourages
young people at the elementary level to start reading more. An
ice cream party is then arranged for all the participants at the
end of the school year. The party this year was on June 6,
2006.

The
Accelerated Reading Team of Rotarians Dave Yocum,
Jerry Klingenberg and Frank Nanney (from left to right) see
to it all the kids have a great celebration of their reading
accomplishments. Great D-Day shirt Frank.
